Itinerary

Miraflores

Day 1

The rest of the day is at your leisure and is a good opportunity to acclimatise to your new surroundings.

Overnight: Belmond Miraflores Park
Room: Junior Suite Ocean View & Junior Suite City View

Lima City

Day 2

The food scene in Lima is hot, but it’s not just a flash in the stove-top pan. Street food superstars are keeping up gastronomical traditions that have been around for generations. Lima’s street food is one of the best parts of the city and today your culinary expert will take you on an introductory tour to remember.

Starting at 1000hrs, you will visit the local market and several local eateries, each specialising in their own signature dish or product. Starting at the iconic Surquillo market where you will find fruits and vegetables from different regions in the country, as well as organic and greenhouse products.

Later, visit a food truck to find the best ceviche in Lima. There we will have the opportunity to try: Classic ceviche with Leche de Tigre, Ceviche al limón, Ceviche combos, chicharron y arroz con mariscos (fragrant Peruvian rice with seafood)

Next, continue to an artisanal boutique ice cream venue, with 32 flavours on display and 54 recipes which vary according to the season, and try traditionally made ice cream with 100% natural ingredients, fruit pallets and frozen fruit slushes and juices.

In the afternoon, meet your guide and enjoy a half day tour of Lima. You will be driven to the historical centre of Lima and the Plaza Mayor, where the Government Palace, City Hall, the Cathedral and the Archbishop's Palace are located. Continue to visit the San Francisco Monastery and step inside Casa Aliaga, a house as old as Lima itself.

Located across the Presidential Palace, Casa Aliaga was built in 1535 by Don Jeronimo de Aliaga, who was a member of Pizarro's conquering forces. Today and seventeen generations later, the house is still owned by the Aliaga family and Gonzalo de Aliaga is the current inhabitant of the house. The inside is absolutely amazing: its inner patio and an imposing wooden staircase lead up to the elegant salons that are richly decorated with Colonial furniture.

Continue to the Pueblo Libre district to visit the Larco Herrera Museum, housed in an 18th century colonial mansion. The museum holds the most extensive collection of pre-Columbian art in Peru, featuring many fine examples of textile work, one of which has a world record 398 threads per inch. The museum collection also contains materials and tools used by ancient Peruvians, to produce their work in ceramics, metal, huaco pottery, gold and silver pieces with semi-precious stones.

Overnight: Belmond Miraflores Park
Room: Junior Suite Ocean View & Junior Suite City View

Fabric Weaving

Day 3

After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport to fly to Cusco.

Upon arrival you will be driven to the Sacred Valley, visiting the archaeological site of Sacsayhuamán on the way. You also stop to learn the ancient weaving techniques used to create Andean clothing at Awanacancha, a breeding centre for South American camelids.

The Sacred Valley, at a lower elevation than Cusco, enjoys a mild climate and offers the visitor a chance to acclimatise to the region in a less physically demanding environment. Surrounded by varied and dramatic landscapes, it has become a prime tourist destination in Peru.

Have lunch at a nice Hacienda in the Valley and then you will be driven to your hotel.

Overnight: Sol Y Luna
Room: 2 x Deluxe Casitas

Peru Sea Kayak

Day 4

Today your kayaking adventure begins at Huaypo, a beautiful lagoon perched on the heights of the Andes at 11647 feet. Its waters provide communities and cultivated fields around the area; and reflect the hills and mountains surrounding it. Your instructor will give a safety briefing and explain the equipment provided. Afterwards, you will paddle around the lagoon in sea kayaks for about two hours. While on the lake, you will be able to appreciate the nature surrounding you in all its dimensions and have beautiful views over the Urubamba and Vilcabamba mountain range.

Afterwards, you will get back on shore to change into dry clothes and head to Ollantaytambo town to enjoy a typical Andean meal 'Pachamanca'; this traditional dish is more a cooking method prepared underground with hot stones where you can taste different types of meats: beef, pork, chicken combined with the delicious Andean potatoes, sweet potatoes and corn.

Later in the afternoon, your guide will surprise the kids with a visit to a pottery workshop to meet Pablo Seminario in his studio. Pablo is one of Peru’s most renowned ceramists, who has a permanent exhibition at Chicago’s Field Museum. At his studio, the entire family will have a chance to learn more about his work. The kids will work the clay to create their own designs, which will be ready later in the week after they’ve been fired and processed appropriately.

Overnight: Sol Y Luna

Hacienda Sarapampa

Day 5

This morning you will visit Sol & Luna School. In the face of growing need, and in order to respond adequately to new challenges and sustain these projects over time, the Association opens its doors to share its challenges and achievements, with the invaluable help from visitors and volunteers.

Then, you will head off and visit the Pisac market which over the years has evolved to be one of South America’s most famous souvenir markets. Try your bargaining skills here, keeping in mind handmade artwork is worth it! Make sure to also sample some ‘empanadas’ baked in traditional clay ovens. Afterwards, immerse yourself into the heart of Andean culture with a visit to the charming Amaru community and discover its engaging and amazing people. Learn about the intricacies of their weaving processes straight from the hands of master craftsmen.

Today's lunch is served at the beautiful Hacienda Sarapampa, where you will enjoy a delicious gourmet tasting lunch in the family’s home. The menu will include both indigenous ingredients and influences from Colonial times. El Callao

Day 10

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport to take your flight back to Lima.

Upon your arrival in Lima, you will be met and transferred to El Callao. The chief sea port of Peru and although widely considered to be something of a coastal suburb of Lima, Callao has always been an independent constitutional province. It is in fact very much its own city and boasts a number of important historical sites and individual characters.

Callao has struggled with street crime and poverty for years. This has however been slowly changing with the help of a private investor, a visionary who took on the challenge of transforming Callao and who founded the urban art project and community organization ‘Monumental Callao’.

The cultural movement known as FUGAZ, has set up in the port city only very recently and is working together with Monumental Callao on exhibitions, transforming spaces into shops for local designers or restaurants as well as on giving artists a platform to exhibit their work, something they would otherwise not be able to afford.

You will then have the opportunity to take a graffiti masterclass with members of Callao Monumental, during the class, the family will learn basic techniques and will have their own wall to experiment on.

After you will be transferred to the airport to take your flight back home.
